Sailing Fun

We are the Trefethen's, a family of cruisers planning to cross the Pacific Ocean beginning in February of 2014. As part of a home school project we have created this blog to facilitate a Cruisers Rally so that others wishing to do the same may join in the fun. Over the next 24 months we are going to discuss various aspects of preparing for such a cruise. We look forward to hearing from both experienced and beginner cruisers as we start this voyage together.

                                With kids safety at sea is our first priority.

Like most of you we carry the commonly found safety items. Things like life jackets with whistles, an air horn, foul weather gear, safety harnesses, life ring, flares,etc.

We were fortunate in that the boat we purchased out of charter had a split back stay rigged with a tuner for SSB radio. The SSB has proven to be one of the best purchases we have made because we can email family from almost anywhere and receive weather grib files.

We look forward to working with fellow cruisers, honing our offshore skills and sharing experiences.

The Galapagos Islands

If you are like me, you always wanted to sail the Pacific on your own boat. You read everything you can on the subject and spend your winter evenings plotting routes to far away places.
 The sage advice recommends, "leave Panama in February - March to maximize your stay in the Society Islands"  so we plan on departing the canal in mid February. We will be headed for the Galapagos Isles on our first Pacific Leg. There are many boats headed down the Milk Run this time of year. Activities

Hi, my name is Julianna and I'm thirteen.  Let's look at some of the possible activities we can do together along the trip.

In the evenings we can watch the sunset on a dingy drift like this one. 

I am looking forward to meeting other cruising kids and having tons of fun!

Hi I'm Stevie

I'm eleven and love the sea!
This is my first blog and I am excited to be writing this. I am in a family of five, we are cruisers and love it. Right now we are in Maryland but, we still have fun.  I think that sailing is the best experience ever!!!!!!!!!!!!
